Quarter Peal Week 11th-18th April 2010 -A Chance to help Our Heroes
With the daily reminders in our media and Rembrance Sunday fresh in our minds, we have decided that in quarter peal week it would be great if local parishoners would sponsor the quarter we intend to ring in their local church in aid of Help for Heroes. Here in the North West District with three air bases and all the housing dedicated to accommodate the servicemen and their families, it is more than likely than most of us know someone who has been involved in the current conflicts and Help for Heroes has been set up to help them. Their web page for more information is-: http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ We will have posters and leaflets available at the next district meeting in January but in the mean time please start thinking now about getting a band together to ring some quarters and let Ruth know what you want to ring, and what support you need to do it i.e. ringers from other towers etc. An article will be appearing in as many parish magazines as we can get access to, so if you have a contact for the editor of yours please let me know.
Last year we rang 24 quarter peals. If each one had been sponsored in the total amount of £20 per congregation we would have raised £480.
Please note, we are not asking the you as ringers to sponsor the quarters (although we wont stop you if you would like to!) the intention is that people in your local church community will be inspired to contribute. The advantages could be two fold. Firstly Help for Heroes will benefit and secondly it will certainly raise the profile of bellringing and who knows you may attract some new recruits as a result. All this can be achieved just by doing what we have done every year recently anyway so no extra work is involved for you as individual ringers.
